Quick Tour – VELAS, SETE FONTES, NORTE GRANDE, TRANSVERSAL, URZELINA, VELAS

This circuit we leave the town of Velas, we continue to the Forest Reserve of Sete Fontes, better known as Parque das Sete Fontes, located in the town of Rosais, the main interest being the viewpoints with magnificent panoramic views, here we see the neighboring islands and north coast of the island of São Jorge.

We continue on to Norte Grande, where we pass through the following places, Toledo and Santo António, when we arrive to the town of Norte Grande, in this town is where we will find the Miradouro do Norte Grande, that offers splendid views of great part of the north coast of the island of São Jorge. Norte grand has several fajãs, Fajã do Ouvidor and Fajã da Ribeira de Areia. that by its size and quantity of inhabitants,they are among the most important fajãs of the island of São Jorge.also belonging to Norte Grande are the villages of Santo António and Ribeira da Areia.

Then we follow the cross road towards the town of Urzelina, this locality has a unique heritage. It stands out among them, the House of the Maios, that is an eighteenth century construction, with historical and architectonic interest. The plot of the master Francisco de Lacerda. The tower of the old church and then we continue to our starting point in Velas.

Arriving in Calheta, the eighteenth-century Church, rich in gold carving, the typical building of the Paços do Concelho,We can also find in Calheta a canning industry, with the famous Santa Catarina tuna. On our way down to velas we see the Viewpoint of Manadas, here we have a wondeful view of Manadas, Terreiros, Urzelina and Queimada. making our way back to velas. Grand Tour – All Island
